Vinspired.com - Recycled Fashion Charity Show

10am – 6pm Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th November 2008 @ Silai for Skills, Easton, Bristol

This weekend, Bristol does a favour for the national recycled fashion charity campaign, Vinspired, by hosting a charity fashion show. Vinspired.com is the national youth volunteering organisation and in collaboration with TRAID, the country’s leading recycling charity, they are hosting a clothes customisation workshop in Bristol to create a unique fashion collection made entirely from recycled clothing.

Workshops are being held this month across the country with each city battling to create the best collection for fashion designer Ben de Lisi to judge at the end of the month.

Kate Winslet’s suit, Twiggy’s jeans and boxer Ricky Hatton’s prized football shirt from his home team Manchester City are just some of the celebrity clothes that have been cut up and customised by young volunteers to create a unique new fashion collection called Fashion Favours. The Fashion Favours project aims to highlight the issues surrounding throwaway fashion and change the image of volunteering while raising money for charity.

Fashion Favour fever is catching on across the country as young people have volunteer their time to take part in regional workshops to contribute to the collection. These workshops are being led by leaders in fashion recycling: TRAID, Junky Styling, The Ethical Fashion Forum and Kesh in Bristol, London, Nottingham and Manchester.

Anyone not attending the workshops can still see their garments go up on the virtual wardrobe by downloading the DIY fashion kit online at vinspired.com with advice and tips on how to customise at home, creating true ‘credit crunch couture’.

Petra Coveney from the volunteering website vinspired.com said: “Fashion Favours fever is catching on across the country as young people realise how easy it is to recycle and customise old clothes. They get to use their creativity, help the environment and raise cash for charity. It just shows that volunteering is as easy as doing a Favour.”
