Theatre Preview - A Christmas Carol
Thursday 11th December 2008 until Sunday 11th January 2009 @ Tobacco Factory Theatre, Bristol
“If I could work my will, I would have every fool who says ‘Merry Christmas’ boiled inside his own pudding…”
As a young man, Ebeneezer Scrooge dreamed of being a world-class inventor. But that was long ago, before life turned his ambition to dust and left him a bumbling, grouchy old miser who can’t even see the point of Christmas. This seasonal night however, his world is about to be turned upside down when some rather unexpected guests arrive to whisk him away on a whirlwind journey through the strange and vivid landscapes of his past, present and future…

This Christmas season sees the Tobacco Factory Theatre present a new adaptation of the family festive favourite – A Christmas Carol. All the characters we know and love will be out in full force from Tiny Tim to Fezziwig, Marley’s ghost to Bob Crachit and all set against a backdrop of Dickensian Bristol.
The role of Ebeneezer Scrooge will be played by the fantastic Chris Bianchi, a local performer who have the power to captive and thrillingly entertain as he has done in many past productions across Bristol, and along side him will be local favourite Tom Wainwright playing Bob Crachit.
The creative team behind the play includes playwright Toby Farrow, who adapted the theatre’s Jungle Book, award-winning director Andy Burden who directed last year’s Alice Through The Looking Glass, Katie Sykes who designed last year’s production of The Ugly Duckling and the Musical Director is Liz Purnell whose credits include a number of shows in the Shakespeare season.
Director Andy Burden explains how he is really excited to be directing the show this year; “I love A Christmas Carol - it’s a bit dark and a bit scary and yet has such an uplifting and heart-warming ending. It’s also very, very funny. When people leave the show we really want them to feel what a special time of year Christmas is.”
