£50 million won and they couldn’t have done it without you!

This is fantastic news, and thanks to everyone who voted for Sustrans’ Connect2 in the People’s £50 Million Lottery Giveaway, and for your help in winning £50 million of funding from the Big Lottery Fund for Sustrans to invest in walking and cycling UK-wide. This is an incredible success story, and no doubt has been helped by the thousands of Suit Yourself Magazine readers who logged on to vote! They could not have done it without you!

Sustrans, like us, start their massive new project in January 2008. Their local authority partners are poised ready to go, and will be adding matched funding from their own transport and other budgets to the £50 million from the Big Lottery Fund. This is a five year long project, and is no mean feat, they intend to make it easier for people to walk, cycle or even run during their day to day lives, stopping them from jumping into their cars and therefore avoiding dangerous and busy roads plus reducing the all important carbon footprint.

This series of cycle paths, bridges and walk ways will be focused in 79 local areas and was the only scheme which had planned to directly benefit the entire country, in short you made the right choice.
We will continue to update you on progress during 2008. For now we are simply enjoying the fact that such a positive Bristol based project won such a prestigious and important award
