Stage Review - The Wiggles
Saturday 26th June 2010 @ Colston Hall, Bristol
The Wiggles are a children’s musical group from Australia consisting of four energetic Aussies, Anthony Field, Sam Moran, Jeff Fatt and Murray Cook. They have been performing for over 19 years and love to tour the world meeting up with their fans. It was the turn of Bristol’s Colston Hall at the end of June. The theme of the show was the circus and the stage was set with an inflatable big top entrance and a cube frame for acrobatics. They were supported by the regular crew of Dorothy the Dinosaur, Captain Feathersword, Henry the Octopus and of course the Wiggly Dancers.
Looking around before the show started, we felt a little underdressed surrounded as we were by children dressed up as various characters from the show and clutching bunches of roses to give to Dorothy the Dinosaur. The show was introduced by the larger-than-life Ringo the ringmaster, followed by the rest of the cast who flipped, jived and pirouetted their way round the stage. The lead vocals were held by Sam Moran, who joined The Wiggles in 2006 following the illness of Greg Page; at only 31 he is the youngest Wiggle but their oldest member, Jeff Fatt (now nearly 60), proved he was not yet ready to retire pulling himself up and over a bar, twirling a hula hoop and standing on his head!
The show was full of energy and a joy of life. The Wiggles obviously love to get out on tour and meet the children, jumping off the stage to greet them. Their enthusiasm was catching and by the end of the show we were all up dancing and singing about cold spaghetti!!
