Stage Preview - Bristol Jam: The UK’s First Festival Of Improvisation

Friday 16th until Saturday 24th October 2009 @ Bristol Old Vic, Bristol

To mark the arrival of Bristol Old Vic’s new Artistic and Executive Directors, Tom Morris and Emma Stenning, Bristol Jam has been created – the UK’s first festival of improvised performance; an audacious and playful melting pot of spontaneity for audiences of all ages. Bristol’s love of improvised jazz is famous but Bristol Old Vic takes this further, throwing open its doors to a week of improvised performance in all forms; from classical drama, comedy and storytelling to music, beatbox and film.

Highlights include unrepeatable, groundbreaking and spur of the moment performances by The Factory with their improvised versions of Hamlet and The Seagull, the internationally acclaimed and much-loved female clown Angela de Castro in The Laughing Show, Phil Kay brings his unique blend of barely constrained madness to the Studio, and the two times UK beatbox champion, Beardyman, creating a show that combines music, beatboxing, comedy and visual art.
