Gig Review - Elliot Minor

Friday 14th November 2008 @ Anson Rooms, Bristol
With Support From: Anberlin

Tonight, Anson Rooms was pretty packed out with a very mixed crowd of young teenagers and middle aged folk who had all flooded in to see headliners Elliot Minor. I was surprised when I heard that a band with such a big fan base were playing such a small venue.

Support act Anberlin, an alternative rock band from Florida, had a fantastic response, almost as good as Elliot Minor! Their wacky riffs and funky beats got everybody gigging as they sung at the top of their lungs. They put on a pretty impressive show as they pumped energy from wall to wall of the room. The only downfall of this spectacular set was the fact that you couldn’t hear, lead singer, Stephen Christian, much at all due to the poor acoustics of this venue. Despite the fact he was prancing around the stage, the sound of the band just totally drowned him out.

Elliot Minor took the bull by the horns and smashed the place to pieces! Young girls were screaming the boys’ names as they jumped for joy watching the band play up to the crowd. Vocalist, Ed Minton, did a shout out to his sister, who was strutting her dance moves near the back of the room! When front man, Alex Davies, came to the barrier, the young fans reached out to grab him, still bouncing to the catchy rhythm of the songs. Half way through the set they attempted to involve the crowd more by trying to start a circle pit which didn’t exactly work, but that didn’t stop the audience moving!

Overall, good performances from all the bands made it a good night. The crowd interaction wasn’t the best but the youngsters still enjoyed every minute of it!
