Gig Review - Flogging Molly
Sunday 9th November 2008 @ Academy, Bristol
With Support From: Time Again, Street Dogs, Skindred
A very exciting night packed full of punters waiting for a whole lot of fun. First up, Time Again, who opened with a good set and got the crowd moving – moving fast. They set off the whole mood of the night on a massive high which was maintained throughout.
Things started to kick off as Street Dogs hit the stage with their rowdy riffs that had the whole audience moving their heads to the beats! They even enticed a young guy on stage whose birthday it was and played a request which kept people up on the highest level! Front man, Mike McColgan then crowd surfed all the way to the back bar over the many heads that stood before him gawking as they watched him fly over!
Skindred rocked the house too! The whole room was bouncing as their blinding tunes made everybody dance. Their quick and catchy rhythms seemed to rub off on the young and old bodies that thoroughly enjoyed watching them and joining in with the silly dances.
But it was headliners Flogging Molly owned the night! From the centre of the mosh-pit to the back bar, the venue was beaming with energy and Dave King made sure everyone’s eyes were fixed to the stage. The room was alive with people dancing, flinging their arms and legs into the air whilst screaming the lyrics at the top of their lungs. There were several times during the show where he would crack a joke and get people interacting then just break into song to keep the flow of high energy!
The crowd interaction throughout the whole night was phenomenal and each band had their own personal connection with their fans; this made the night, as it meant everyone was on the same level and having such a fantastic time. Smiles all round for an outstanding gig!
