Cinema Review - Happy-Go-Lucky
Screening between Wednesday 9th and Wednesday 30th April 2008 @ Watershed, Bristol
It’s not often you find a film where the main character is a well-balanced human being living a fun, fulfilled life. So strange is this situation that it takes you half the film to even get your head around it and stop trying to pick holes in the lead character’s life. It’s only then that you realise that the story isn’t about any life realisation of hers at all, but of those around her and how they react to her chirpy, relentless optimism. These responses vary hugely, ranging from her housemate bouncing of her chirpiness and young, dashing men wanting to take her for drinks to her driving instructor getting so intensely wound-up with her never-ending charm that he’s literally spitting with rage! These brilliant scenes are laugh out loud stuff and worth seeing the film for alone.
