Club Review - I Feel Space

Saturday 12th July 2008 @ Start The Bus, Bristol

So after a successful start at Native all those months ago and an even more eventful party down at the Bank Tavern, ‘I Feel Space’ have dusted off their spandex suits and taken their party vibes to the infamous Start The Bus. As a recent attempt by the Bus Starting management to attract a more ‘down to earth’ clientele who will treat the venue as the bar it always intended to be, they are starting to embrace Bristol’s music scene by hosting a range of diverse club nights and last Saturday saw I Feel Space’s turn. The move was seen by the cosmic gang as a bit dubious, having always intended to keep their parties as intimate as possible; but on this occasion it paid off.

This party witnessed I Feel Space move into more dance floor territories, aside from its usual cosmic vibe which allowed each DJ to mould their own personalities onto the dancefloor. This was apparent by the tight leash each DJ held around the floor for the whole night; STB, usually a place of straggled dancers, witnessed its tiny dancefloor jammed all night.

Highlight of the night came from legendary disco diva Sell By Dave, playing alongside Tape resident Richard Carnage. They gave us a journey through old and nu disco, all tightly wrapped into an hour and a half slot and proved once again that they are two of the best DJ’s in Bristol.

Resident DJ’s Vast N Bulbous started something beautiful and even though this being one of the few times they have played live, managed to preserve the exact quality of music the night represents. Playing a range of nu-disco with excursions into house music and essential Italo, it is no wonder these guys are residents.

The vibe at the bus was warm and relaxed for a place that usually is uptight and dry, reminiscent of European bars that adopt more of a party vibe than our locals. I must say this was THE best night I’d experienced at the bus, the character of I Feel Space was noticeable and the laid back vibes added to the experience; I think IFS have started something in Bristol disco wise and soon we’ll all be under their cosmic spell.
