Graffle is a raffle of urban/street/graffiti art where esteemed international artists are asked to donate an original piece of artwork which is then raffled off at a cost of only £10 per ticket with all the money raised going to children’s charities.

The first Graffle took place in Bristol back in January and 32 street artists donated pieces, raising a total of £20,000. The outstanding success of the event and it’s great reception from the urban art scene has meant the organisers will be hosting another Graffle this summer!

Walking around the Triangle is an intensely physical experience, the word meant in its crudest sense: the main attraction of this admittedly beautiful and buzzy area of our darling city is food. Apart from a constantly full local Sainsbury’s and 24-hour convenience stores, it offers a truly amazing array of shops, restaurants, cafes, take-aways and other establishments dedicated to the noble cause of feeding 24/7. Not that food is bad, of course – living on the Triangle I have come to appreciate the importance of said establishments for my physical and mental well-being; however I do occasionally feel that the place is saturated (pun unfortunately intended) and that a new wind should blow in the Triangle, allowing our mind to escape from the ‘Food Craze’.

Sooo where can you spoil yourself in Bristol for under a fiver? Well for the sweet toothed out there I beckon you to St Nicholas covered market. Situated off Corn Street in town, I discovered this badly kept secret after a morning spent exploring the market one Saturday. The urge came on strongly for some kind of pick me up and this is what I stumbled upon.

Since the Pro Cathedral project finished last December, Artspace Lifespace have been busy negotiating and putting plans together for their biggest undertaking to date. Working closely with developers Urban Splash, the group have now secured the old city centre fire/police station formerly known as Bridewell and renamed it ‘The Island’. As ever Artspace Lifespace hopes to demonstrate how important it is that buildings in our community are used in a positive, if not necessarily traditional way; demonstrating the value of transforming derelict buildings in to vibrant spaces.

Goldish will run 23th May – 5th June
I love the Centrespace gallery, tucked away down Leonard Lane, a narrow twisting alleyway just off Corn Street. Just walking there is quietly exciting – it makes me think of medieval times, of Bristol as an ancient, organic city. If you haven’t been there yet, you really should, and ‘Goldish’ is the upcoming show I am most looking forward to this May.

Dedicated to Thomas Chatterton
Chatterton, the boy genius, deserves more than praise and credit
Divinely inspired, you don’t have to be alive to get it.
Perhaps Bristol has always been full of creative people,
From Access to Music to Circomedia - I’ve found no equal.
I grew up in London where they come from far and wide to compete.
Those in Bristol tend to collaborate - the vibration here’s unique.

Fuck you ‘reality’. I’ve dealt with you before.
I create my own reality, do I want less or more?
Goddess or Whore? More or less
What you feel is what you get, so feel love I guess.
I remember university, they said it was a pity.
“Just wait until you graduate, cos ‘real life’ is so shitty.”
