Summer is nearly here - the season for ice-cream vans and holding hands, flip-flops and frisbees, sorbets and sunburn, beer gardens and barbeques. But chances are that the summer of 2009 is going to be another complete and utter washout and Vitamin D intake is going to be at an all time low. Therefore, here at SY we’ve helpfully compiled our guide to the best ways for you to enjoy those warm but rainy days and embrace the soggy summer!
- Put on a wetsuit and pretend it’s sunny.
- Turn up the heating in your house, don’t consume any liquid at all for 4 days and then run outside into the rain with your head back and mouth wide open; you’ll get a whole new appreciation for precipitation!

The Climbing Academy’s spirit was born a long time ago, amidst frozen blue ice caves deep in the mountains of Northern Italy and is the brainchild of Paul Twomey and Rich Emerson. Finally, after two years of perseverance, this once far off dream is now a reality - in the form of the biggest bouldering cave in the south west!

We were all grinning by now. One of our competitors - a strapping 30-something bloke - audaciously pulled his shorts down, enabling the marshall to spread a slick of hot wax on his sweaty butt crack and instantly whip off a strip of damp bum fluff!

Follow the adventures of Matthew Whittle (www.matthewwhittleblog.blogspot.com) as he joined the 8,000 odd who turned up for Bristol’s Biggest Bike Ride 2009 – Bristol’s festival of all thing bicycle. Matt cycled the ‘Sustrans Ride To Portishead’ route (24 miles).

Sunday 21st June 2009 @ All Over Bristol

Another sunny Sunday in June sees the 16th annual Bristol’s Biggest Bike Ride and Fun Day event. Now officially Britain’s first Cycling City, Bristol is proud to host this free family event run by Bristol City Council to celebrate the end of National Bike Week (13th – 21st June).

Get Walking Day ’09, which aims to enable people to see the physical, mental, environmental and social benefits of walking is now being promoted by the Ramblers, Britain’s walking charity. They are inviting everyone in the south west to a free walking festival over the Bank Holiday weekend of 30 May and 1 June. A whole series of short walks (less than 5 miles) has been organised in towns, cities and countryside all over the region, many of which have associated refreshments and special events.

Sunday 3rd May 2009 @ The Bristol and Bath Railway Path
The first annual Bristol to Bath skate for Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) begins at 10.30am this Sunday on the Bristol and Bath Railway Path, guided by instructors from local skating tutors SkateBristol.
Everyone is welcome for the 16 mile skate; join 40 skaters from the Bristol area of all abilities, from novice skaters to members of Bristol Falcons Skater Hockey team and Bristol Pitbulls Ice-Hockey players competing to be the first into Bath.
