Blood Pumping BASE Jumping

September 15th, 2010

BASE jumpers don’t really like using a parachute; they would rather be a squirrel and meander down to earth with webbed limbs. Watching the skin-tight suited beings zoom down to earth in real time really makes you think that the gutsy bungee jump you did a few years back was in fact for kittens - a petal singing its way to the floor. These thrill seekers jump from mountains, bridges and skyscrapers without a hint of a rope. They’re the ones that justify that ‘super rad’, adventure extreme soundtrack while you are on Cliff Richard’s tour bus. Damn it they’re crazy, dangerous and irreverent and just too cool! But let is be said: BASE JUMPING IS A PERILOUS SPORT!

Bowlerama Americana

September 5th, 2010

I’m not someone who takes the time to go bowling all that regularly but last Wednesday, myself and a group of friends decided to do something a little different and an evening throwing balls at a bunch of pins just about fitted the bill!

Gig Review - A Day At The Races

June 25th, 2010

Sunday 20th June 2010 @ Louisiana, Bristol
With Support From: The Bird And The Magicians, The Terrabangs, Guiltless Adam

Despite what has been a less than exciting performance from the England team in the World Cup so far, football fever had hit the Louisiana big time for A Day At The Races’ “Official World Cup Gig” where support was specially selected by the band to celebrate the tournament.

The Bird And The Magicians opened the night. Despite their age, the young foursome put on a consistent set of intertwining guitar lines. The obligatory football cover of the night was a cheeky rendition of the Match Of The Day theme which, tongue-in-cheek as it was, set the mood for the night. Highlight of the set was their Horrors-esque Slap On Your Face. Groovy yet sinister rhythms and lovely lady vocals from singer/bassist Betty Belsten were a treat for dancing feet.

Avalaan: Bristol’s Newest Lifestyle Brand

June 8th, 2010

‘Young’ and ‘dynamic’ are buzzwords too often associated with any brand that’s heard of Banksy or a kickflip, but for the painfully cool Avalaan, they’ve never been more applicable.

Nestled amongst the independent community of Gloucester Road, Avalaan’s urban sportswear plunges you deep into a lo-slung world of hip-hop, street art and all things skate and snow. Sweet sneaks are on sale next to ski goggles and cans of spray paint, and the walls burst with the work of local graffiti artists. And then there’s the rainbow collection of t-shirts, scarves and hoodies.
