Bristol To Bath Skate For Meningitis
Sunday 3rd May 2009 @ The Bristol and Bath Railway Path
The first annual Bristol to Bath skate for Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) begins at 10.30am this Sunday on the Bristol and Bath Railway Path, guided by instructors from local skating tutors SkateBristol.
Everyone is welcome for the 16 mile skate; join 40 skaters from the Bristol area of all abilities, from novice skaters to members of Bristol Falcons Skater Hockey team and Bristol Pitbulls Ice-Hockey players competing to be the first into Bath.

Skaters hope to raise over £700 for MRF through sponsorship from family and friends. Meningitis and septicaemia are dangerous diseases affecting nine people every day in the UK, killing six per week, and leaving survivors with after-effects such as brain damage, deafness and amputations. Money raised will go towards funding critical medical research, promoting education and awareness and helping individuals and families affected by these devastating diseases.
Want to take part? Skates and safety pads are provided; simply contact SkateBristol by visiting:

The sponsored skate was a fantastic success. 30 skaters made the 16 mile journey from Bristol to Bath in bright sunshine on 2 May - recreational rollerbladers joining the Bristol Falcons Skaterhockey team and ice hockey players from around the country. Photos here: http://tinyurl.com/MRFskate09
We raised £1,000 for Meningitis Research Foundation, money which will help us continue funding vital research into meningitis and septicaemia, raising awareness of the diseases and providing support to those affected. For more info visit http://www.meningitis.org
I’d like to thank everyone who came along and skated or donated their money to a great cause. There are more skating events in the pipeline - keep an eye on http://www.skatebristol.co.uk for details.
