Bristol Music - Metropolis - Guy Pratt

PINK FLOYD’S MOST RECENT BASS PLAYER, AND SESSION MUSICIAN TO MUSIC INDUSTRY LEGENDS, GUY PRATT, BRINGS HIS ONE-MAN STAND-UP SHOW TO METROPOLIS ON THURSDAY 11 MARCH

In October 2009, Wolfgang Flur treated his Metropolis audience to a two hour show of his life as Kraftwerk’s drummer in the 70s and early 80s, and followed it with a unique dj set.  So, to continue with the mini-theme of one-man musician shows, Metropolis brings Guy Pratt to their grade II listed, former silent cinema music-and-comedy venue on Thursday 11 March.

Guy Pratt has played live with, and been the session bass musician for many of the music industry’s biggest names.  These include, Pink Floyd, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Tears for Fears, Echo and the Bunnymen and The Smiths.

Guy’s show is called ‘Breakfast of Idiots’ and is a kind of updated and revised version of his original show ‘My Bass and other Animals’ which won many media plaudits when he took it to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2007.

The show will take you on a no-holds-barred, rollercoaster ride of the music industry and what it’s like to work with some of its biggest names.  Guy is a natural raconteur and delivers his show like any quality stand-up comedian.  His stories will make you gasp and laugh out loud in the same breath.  He even brings his bass guitar along for an airing to show off his skills and add zest to his tales.

As with the Wolfgang Flur show, Guy has agreed to do a Q and A session at the end of the show too.  This will allow audience member to question Guy on any aspect of his work with the stars thus adding a fascinating dimension to an already spectacular show.

This really is a show not to be missed, and is a one-off opportunity to see Guy in Bristol, and in fact anywhere in the country now.  As Guy put it himself, “I’ve brought this show out of retirement, just for you guys (Metropolis managers) and the people of Bristol”.  The venue management admits to a lot of heavy leaning and greasing of palms just to coax Guy down the M4, but is thrilled to bits that he has agreed to do the show.  Metropolis boss David Trew said “I’m a lifetime Pink Floyd fan.  I’ve seen them live three times over the years, twice with Guy at the helm, so to have him here serving up his show is a dream-come-true.  I would urge anyone with an appreciation of music to come along – it’ll be one hell of a night”
