Artspace Lifespace Update
Since the Pro Cathedral project finished last December, Artspace Lifespace have been busy negotiating and putting plans together for their biggest undertaking to date. Working closely with developers Urban Splash, the group have now secured the old city centre fire/police station formerly known as Bridewell and renamed it ‘The Island’. As ever Artspace Lifespace hopes to demonstrate how important it is that buildings in our community are used in a positive, if not necessarily traditional way; demonstrating the value of transforming derelict buildings in to vibrant spaces.
Artspace Lifespace are working hard to get this incredible site up and running and when it is finished, The Island will house:
60 affordable studio spaces for creatives.
a high profile city centre venue for performing arts and physical theatre
a gallery and exhibition space
a café
a rehersal space for theatre groups and circus companies
Through this development, Artspace Lifespace will be able to give Bristol City Centre some much needed soul and demonstrate once again how important it is to the well being of any urban environment that buildings are used in a way that helps to give an area life and sustain the people using it.
