Local Designer - Sabine Lang
I never fail to be pleasantly surprised by the talent and creativeness that can be found in Bristol. The city certainly does impress in every little corner.
Behind the door of an every day flat in Montpelier, Sabine Lang is creating some of the most unusual and unique jewellery I have ever seen. Using pure ingredients to create the illusion of bubbles, Sabine is giving traditional jewellery styles a very modern twist.

The idea originally came to light whilst she was studying her diploma in jewellery design in Germany. Sabine told me that she wanted to create pieces that were transparent, that “were nearly not there”. Reaching the conclusion that this wasn’t entirely possible, she developed the ‘bubbles’ idea. With minimal effort the impression of precious jewellery, pearls and luxurious pieces is given.
She tells me “I wanted to use a geometric shape that was not only easy to work with to create elegant looks, but was also recognisable to everybody. It is camouflaged to the body so people have to look twice to be sure of what they have seen.” The effect works brilliantly. The items pick up each element of light in the same way a water bubble would. The collection is as exciting and fun for the wearer as it is for every one that gets the opportunity to view it.
As an extension to the transparent pieces, Sabine has created a set where she fills the bubbles with silicone to create the illusion of opals and moonstone. Again these brilliantly simple and clean pieces pick up and reflect light to great effect and appear very expensive and glamorous. “I am very proud of the collection and the response that I have received. So far I’m very lucky in that no-one has copied the idea, so every piece I create is original and unique to the wearer.”
After years of hard work, all the effort finally seems to be paying off for Sabine. She successfully exhibits at a trade event each year in Germany and recently has agreed a contract with a central London store to stock the jewellery.
